NOT thinking of ourselves so much, we need to hurt ourselves on purpose. Where is the acceptance of God's Grace in all that self-infliction? Mercy me.

PS: the Little Flower is my favorite RCC saint. I do love her even though I am Protestant. +dutchhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05037048434409857094noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30512717.post-49298920340795624882006-11-30T14:49:00.000-08:002006-11-30T14:49:00.000-08:00I think being a "victim soul" is for OTHER peoples...I think being a "victim soul" is for OTHER peoples' time in purgatory, not your own...but correct me if I'm wrong - and I'm sure Sister will.

I have a sense that God doesn't deal with measuring out much except justice.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30512717.post-33649666991153113322006-11-30T13:52:00.000-08:002006-11-30T13:52:00.000-08:00I think I remember a saint who wrote that it is po...I think I remember a saint who wrote that it is possible to live out some of your purgatory before death...I can't remember exactly who, maybe St. Catherine? Is this called being a penitent? or a "victim soul"?Mikalahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03068540582376189641noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30512717.post-6794918042602572132006-11-30T13:14:00.000-08:002006-11-30T13:14:00.000-08:00I have always had a problem with the self-inflicte...I have always had a problem with the self-inflicted sufferings of the saints. It's one thing to joyfully suffer persecution for one's faith, or to suffer in the service of others, like Mother Teresa working in the filth of the streets of Calcutta.

But it always seemed to me that rubbing one's face with pepper and wearing a crown of thorns was self-aggrandizing; as if to say, "Look how holy I am! I'm suffering!"; after all, didn't Jesus say the hypocrites do as much? And aren't our bodies a gift from God that we're supposed to take good care of?

The point that the sufferings of the saints who did that were getting souls out of Purgatory helps with this a bit. That and the fact that they're in heaven so God must not have much of a problem with any of the points I just made.KatDeehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09375302284739220059noreply@blogger.com
